INFORMATION FOR TEACHERSWho should enter? It is recommended that all students in a year group are entered as part of the aim of the competition is to discover aptitude. The questions are in the form of engaging puzzles that start off relatively easy so every student can have a go and should get something out of the competition. We would love it if you entered the whole school!

Instructions for BCC School Coordinators
Before the Challenge
Fortnight of the Challenge
After the Challenge
** Many schools will run the UK Bebras in normal lesson time during the five days of either the first or second weeks. However, if schools have large enrolment and/or limited lab space (this is usually the majority of schools), two week timetables, etc., they may run the challenge over the two weeks. Please do your best to limit the interaction between students who have completed the challenge and those that have yet to complete the challenge. Try to ensure that students do not take notes out of your classroom. UK Bebras emphasises participation over competition.
- Register for UK Bebras online. You will not be asked for the number of students participating in the challenge just yet. Be sure to check that your e-mail address is correctly recorded as the School Coordinator Email.
- Arrange for the challenge to be held during the week of the challenge. Each participating student will need access to a web browser connected to the internet. **
- Coordinators will be emailed a link to instructions on how to manage their account and register students for the competition after registering their schools.
Fortnight of the Challenge
- Distribute the userids and passwords.
- Explain the format of the challenge. For the four oldest age groups there are 18 multiple-choice problems. The challenge is graded out of a total of 200 marks: 6 questions in Part A worth 6 marks each, 6 questions in Part B worth 9 marks each, and 6 questions in Part C worth 12 marks each. All students start with 38 marks.
- Instruct students to visit challenge.bebras.uk, login and follow the directions listed.
- Supervise the challenge. The system will give each student exactly 40 minutes to answer as many of the the 18 problems as they can. Teachers can provide scrap paper and pens/pencils to students to assist them in solving the problems.
After the Challenge
- Results will be available to you by logging in to the competition web app approximately one week after the challenge. Certificates of Participation, Distinction and Best in School will be emailed in the following weeks.
- The names of top-scoring students among all those participating in the competition will be posted online.
- Solutions will be available online. They will include Connections to Computer Science outlining how the problems are related to computer science and its applications.
- In January top performing students and their families will be invited to Oxford University for a celebration and final round.
